What
is Facebook? Facebook is a social utility that connects people with
family, friends, coworkers, classmates and other people they find interesting.
It builds communities from individuals, and gives its users a place to share
information, ideas and concerns.
If you're new to Facebook, you have a million
questions about what to do and how to do it. If you're anything like me,
you've already spent countless hours looking for answers, only to be frustrated
when you couldn't find what you were looking for in a reasonable amount of time.
That's why I put this page together. To
help me (and now you) navigate Facebook. At HowDoIFacebook.com
we answer your most frequently asked questions, provide a glossary of Facebook
terminology, and package it in an easy-to-use format.
Don't get me wrong, Facebook has a robust Help
Center, but it can lead you all over the place for answers. That's a
real problem for me. You may have also noticed that some of the questions
are answered by Facebook users themselves, people like you and me, whose
intentions are good, but whose answers lack clarity and meaning.
If you have a question and no answer, email
me. I'll do my best to resolve your issue. If you bring up
something new, or something that has yet to be adequately documented, I might
easily be convinced to post your question and my response to it to this site for
others to see.

- Facebook
Help Center - Profiles
Profiles are for regular, everyday people like you and me. Profiles
attract friends.
Each user is permitted to maintain a single account, which is represented by
a profile. Profiles can only be used to represent an individual, and
must be held under an individual name. You create a new profile when
you sign up for a Facebook account as
a new user.
- Facebook
Help Center - Pages
Facebook Pages represent a real public figure, artist, brand,
business or organization. Pages
attract fans.
A single user can have multiple Facebook Pages provided that user is an
authorized representative of the entity for which the page was
created. Visit the step-by-step
guide on how to create a page on Facebook. Go here
to create a page.
- Facebook
Help Center - Groups
Groups can be created by any user
and about any topic, as a place for users to share their opinions and
interest in that subject. Groups center around shared interests, activities, or ideas.
Groups attract members.

- Facebook
Help Center - Causes
Causes are advocacy groups and/or online campaigns used to raise money,
promote awareness, or champion a cause. They are created by people like
you and me. They generally benefit non-profits or other organizations that
have already established a connection with Facebook. Go here
to start a new cause.

Facebook
Advertising
Facebook is a great place to reach 200,000,000 people and market you
products and ideas.
Facebook
Charity Gifts
This feature enables Facebook users to donate money to any of 21 select and
specifically targeted charities. Donation amounts are predetermined
and range in value from $10 for two blankets for people suffering from a
disaster or emergency to $200 for a laptop computer for a child in a developing
country.
Facebook Charity
Gift Shop (Gift Shop
Help)
On April 9, 2009, Facebook celebrated 200 million users by partnering with 16
global charity/advocacy groups. Those groups created virtual gifts for the
Facebook gift shop that Facebook users can purchase for their friends. All
proceeds go to the group associated with the gift.

interact with users on Facebook. This guide explains the purpose of a page
and the process of creating one.

that lets you add causes to your Facebook profile.
Facebook
Groups
This link takes you to the application
that lets you create a Facebook group. Groups are not profiles.
There are several differences.
- Groups have members. Profiles have
friends.
- Groups have officers. Profiles have
administrators.
- Groups center around shared interests,
activities, or ideas. Profiles are generally created for a single
person or entity.
- Groups have discussion boards where members
can share ideas and interact with each other. Profiles have "the
wall" where friends can post comments, pictures and more.
Facebook: Yahoo Answers
Excellent Q&A in 26 different languages. Interactive search
feature lets users search for the right answers to the right questions.
Users ask questions, help answer existing (open) questions, benefit from resolved questions, and/or vote on
the best answers to questions that are still undecided. A little
convoluted, but not a bad way to resolve issues.
